Services Directory:  County Departments

             Rabun county is proud to offer it's taxpayers some great services.  To better inform our residents and others, this web site includes information for the following services provided by the county.

 

  • Board of Commissioners           The Board of Commissioners office & staff provide support for the Board of Commissioners, as well as managing and coordinating the activities of the departments under the commission.  In addition to this, all public accommodations licenses, beer & wine licenses and business licenses are processed and issued by this office. Included in the Board of Commissioners office is the finance department.  This department is responsible for accounting for all financial transactions, disbursement of funds, preparation of payroll, facilitating development of the budget, monitoring of revenues and expenditures against budgeted amounts, investment of funds and control of fixed assets. 

  • Board of Elections  & Registration    The Board of Elections consist of 3 members. To contact our Supervisor of Elections & Registration::  twhitmireboe@windstream.net  Registering to vote in Rabun County can be done at the Board of Election's office; when applying for a driver's license; Rabun County Library; or call for other locations.   • Building and Grounds                   The Building and Grounds department is responsible for maintaining the county's Courthouse and all county buildings.  The department also performs or oversees all new construction for county facilities.

  • Clerk of Superior Court                 The powers and duties of the clerk of superior court are mostly entirely ministerial.  The major responsibilities of the clerk include the maintenance of court record and the registration of property transactions.

  • Civic Center                                       The Civic Center is a county facility with a main level and lower level.   The main level has a seating capacity of 600 for a seated banquet or 600+ or a concert, etc.  The lower level is set up as a 50's style Diner, featuring a Wurlitzer Jukebox.  This level is great for smaller events such as birthday parties, receptions or meetings.  For more detailed information, click here to visit our website  rabunciviccenter

  • County Marshal                          The County Marshal is responsible for enforcement of all County Ordinances and State Laws, Soil Erosion Plans & Enforcement, Adopt-A-Highway program, Animal Control and Scrap Tire Enforcement Program.  The probation officer for Rabun County also works under the supervision of this department and is responsible for collecting probation fines and fees.

  • E911                                              The E911 department is the central communications department.  All emergency calls are received by this department.  E911 dispatches the calls to appropriate law enforcement, fire, ambulance, animal control and public workers, keeping tapes and records of all calls.   • Emergency Medical Services         The Emergency Medical Services have qualified Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics that respond to all vehicle incidents and other emergency situations providing medical care including transport and rescue.

  • Emergency Management Agency   The Emergency Management Agency is responsible for the coordination of local, state and federal assistance where needed to protect the lives of people and their property.  Evacuation plans, medical assistance, temporary housing, food and clothing are all part of the plans that are coordinated through this office.

  • Mapping and Addressing              The Mapping and Addressing department is responsible for issuing 911 street addresses for new homes or businesses which are constructed in the county, maintaining the E-911 database, and installation and maintenance of all street and road signs in the county.   • Probate Judge                                The Probate Judge's office provides a variety of services to the public.  These services include: providing the standard Georgia forms for the probate of decedents wills and processing administration of estates; filing wills for safekeeping for the public; holding estate hearings; accepting filings concerning minor and adult guardianships and conservatorships and holding hearings for same including recording of all documents; issuing, processing and recording Georgia marriage licenses; and receiving applications for Georgia firearms permits and issuing those licenses once background checks are completed and approved.  The Probate Judge also holds traffic court and subsequent hearings twice a month processing and disposing of traffic citations written by the GA State Patrol and the Rabun County Sheriff's Department. In addition, Rabun County's Probate Judge is appointed by the GA State Registrar and serves as the Local Registrar of Vital Records, and in that capacity, maintains custodial copies of Rabun County birth and death records and issues certified copies of same.  For more information concerning other services available through GA Probate Courts and to access the standard probate court forms, please refer to this web link. http://www.gaprobate.org

  • Recreation Department                  The Recreation Department is responsible for all county recreation programs such as baseball, football, basketball, etc.  This includes the scheduling of all games, running of concession stands, hiring of game officials.  For more information, please visit our recreation page.

  • Recycle Department                      The Recycle department is responsible for operating the recycle drop-off centers located throughout the county and the main recycling center at Boggs Mountain Road.  For more information, please click here to visit our recycle page.

  •  Road Department                         The Road department maintains the county's roads and bridges relative to pavement repair and resurfacing, right-of-way landscape mowing, scraping of gravel roads, maintenance of roadway drainage and bridge construction and maintenance.  Also, this department is responsible for construction of new county roads and pavement of county roads.

  • Senior Center                                 The Rabun County Senior Center is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Our center offers a variety of activities.  We have a quilt room, a game room equipped with a pool table, ping pong table and numerous card or game tables, a computer lab, a craft room, puzzle area, TV room, swimming pool, a dinning room and a fully equipped kitchen.  Meals are prepared every day in our kitchen. We provide meals on wheels for Rabun County citizens, and provide meals for senior who attend the center on a daily basis.  Meals on Wheels provides hot meals and daily personal contact for the homebound elderly. We also offer water aerobic classes and  free swim daily. Rabun County Transit/Dial-A-Ride is also operated from the Senior Center. Dial-A-Ride provides accessible, affordable and convenient public transportation to county residents.  Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on a demand-response system.  Rabun County Dial-A-Ride is wheelchair accessible.  Transportation request should be made 24 hours in advance when possible.   • Soil Erosion                                  The Soil Erosion officer is responsible for all soil erosion plans and enforcement of all ordinances regarding soil erosion.

  • Solid Waste                                  The Solid Waste department collects and disposes of solid waste material in accordance with local, state and federal environmental laws. This department is responsible for the operation of the transfer station at Boggs Mountain Road.  The transfer station allows the loading of solid waste materials from dumpsters, private vehicles and garbage trucks onto semi-trailers which haul the waste to a contracted landfill.  In addition to this, this department is also responsible for the operation of our new Construction and Debris Landfill where non-polluting materials will be buried.

  • Sheriff Department                        The Sheriff's Department is responsible for all law enforcement activities within the county.  These activities include, but are not limited to: Protection of life and property, preservation of the public peace, prevention, detention, and investigation of criminal activities. Duties include service and execution of warrants, bailiff duties to the courts, service of summonses and subpoenas and the service of other civil process papers.   • Tax Assessor                                  The Tax Assessor office appraises taxable property, maintains county tax records, prepares annual assessments and assists the equalization board.

  • Tax Commissioner                              The Tax Commissioner is responsible for the collecting of taxes such as, Property tax, personal property tax, mobile home, vehicle tax and license plates.  In addition to this, the Tax Commissioner is responsible for distributing the property tax to the State, County and Schools.

  • Fire Department                                  Rabun County has twelve volunteer Fire Departments.  The Fire Committee consists of five members.   These volunteer County Fire Departments provide fire suppression, & fire prevention services.
