As of May 2006, through local legislation, Rabun County has a combined Board of Elections and Registration. This three member board has an office in Suite 205 of the Rabun County Courthouse and appointed a full-time elections supervisor, Tammy Whitmire, who maintains that office and is responsible for the preparation and conducting of all county elections, registering voters, preserving and updating voter registration files, and all duties of the former elections superintendent and voter registrar.
You may register to vote in Rabun County at the Board's office in Suite 205, the Rabun County Library, when applying for a driver's license or call for other locations.
You may vote in a particular election if you are registered to vote by the registration deadline, and you will be at least 18 years of age on or before the date of the election. Registration deadline is the fifth Monday prior to the election (if a holiday, moves to next day).
Voters must cast their ballots at the polling place designated for the precinct in which they live. There are nine voting precincts in the county. If in doubt about your polling location, contact the Board of Elections & Registration.
You may vote by absentee ballot if:
v You will be absent from your precinct from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day
v You are 75 years of age or older
v You have a physical disability which prevents you from voting in person.
v You are an election official.
v You are observing a religious holiday, which prevents you from voting in person.
v You are required to remain on duty in your precinct for the protection of the life, health, or safety of the public.
* You may vote by mail, no reason required.
* You may vote in person the Monday through Friday of the week before the election, no reason required.
Contact the Elections and Registration office when changing your address or with questions about absentee voting.
